Going to the Chapel, and Film life

Hi!

I got married!! Any Honeymooned!! Hoorah hoorah. It could not have have been more fun, special, or exciting. Perfection. And to that, I give you this wedding preparations game which is hilarious: http://www.dolidoli.com/game/wedding-preparations/

So that's what I have been up to.. and am currently hair/make-up department head on a film called 'Home', by Sean Gallagher. It's been going great.. a little rough at first because we are filming nights( 6pm to 6am) once you adjust it's not a big deal. There are 11 characters that Daniele(my assistant) and I are taking care of, and the actors are all wonderful! It's a mix of local talent, LA, and NY folks. I love having all of the LA people around to romanticize LA with.

The film is being shot on HD cameras, so make-up is VERY important. Essentially what the naked eye sees up close, is exactly what the camera will read. Often with film and print, there is a slight amount of diffusion- not here. This adds a hint of pressure, but is not a problem for my style. My artistic approach has always come from a light hand so it works out very well. This format is actually ideal for me.

When working on film, getting the actors ready is the first crunch of the day, and after that it is maintaining(or sometimes changing) a look to maintain continuity. Continuity is actually very important in all aspects of film.

This time around, I am choosing to work with Make-up Forever's HD foundation, concealer, and translucent powder line. It's been looking great!

Talk soon!

Hair Color!!

I just attended a very private class given by David Stanko, top colorist and educator in New York and and super excited about all that I've learned! Staying inspired and on top, and ahead of trends is so important.

We got great insight on this seasons trends, including the beautiful lived in highlights that are popping up on magazines and runways worldwide. Such a graceful style, I encourage my clients who don't need that highlight all the way to the root to try this out. Gives such a natural, pretty effect.

Some Examples- note the variation in highlight placement- end result is a soft finish that *bonus* grows out in a more forgiving manner:

Try it out for summer!

Catch up! Fab for Summer skin!

It's been a little while! Ha! It's just part of me.. ok? As I found a big wad of cash in one of my set bags yesterday, I said to Paul-" see, it PAYS to be unorginized!!" ha!

I won't let you down though- always pull through.

Product Reviews!!

Jergens Express Tanner

This is the first self tanner I have used since high school. I've been weary! My legs were pale and not looking so hot in shorts.. so I decided to be daring- but safe- and go the gradual moisturizer route. Funny though, because once i got in the store, I thought- i don't have 7 days, i kinda want my results now!

So Jergens to the rescue with it's Express formula for impatient people. I used it for 2 days on my legs, and voila! Nice natural looking color. You don't to wait forever for it to dry, and it does add nice mouisture as well! This product is easy, and delivers!

Make-up Forever HD Creme Blush

Amazing! This is a pretty new product from Make-up Forever as they expand there HD line. This product is not for the consumer with two left hands when it comes to applying their make-up though.. I will warn. It's very pigmented, a little goes a long way, and you need to blend well. BUT- if you are decent at putting on your face, please try this out! It is super long wearing, blends INTO your skin for natural, beautiful color instead of sitting on top like a powder. Also, try layering it on super hot muggy days. A little creme, a little powder on top.

Have fun with this product, and make-up artists- definitly add this to your kit!

Corrective Color....Box Color-dun dun DUUUN!!!

New York City!!

I have been in New York taking a wonderful class at the Redken Exchange, Redken's hub on 5th Avenue. The Exchange was most amazing, and the class was very informative and inspiring!
It was called color 911, and was all about color correction techniques. Now, I considered myself very talented in the corrective world already, but with the new things I've learned, am ready to tackle the worst if it- show me your at home disasters! In the 70's, at home hair coloring was being done more than in salon coloring, then in the late 90"s the statistic flip flopped. Hooray for professinal hair colorists everywhere! Because of recent economy strains, we are back to at home experimenting taking the cake- which really equates to more corrective color in the shop.

I learned many new techniques in the class, but I think the highlight was when we got to experiment with home color kits. All of us in the class got a different box of color, and colored 4 swatches of hair. After processing and rinsing, we kept one as a control, and were able to go to town on the other 3. The point was to test reactions and predictability. We then shared our results so we all could learn from it. My product was a 10 minute root touch kit, that guaranteed 100% grey coverage and the ability to match ANY medium brown. First off, my swatches turned a very funky, green/gold blonde shade...very far from desirable. I created what I thought would be popular requests for me, if someone had did this to their hair. A more balanced blonde, a deeper and richer brown- like the box promised, and I tested highlighting over it. All turned out about how I predicted, and weren't too tricky to work around- which was great. Some of my class mates were not as lucky however. Funky color was the name of the game, and there is no doubt that at home color is risky. If you are lucky enough to get a decent result, plan on keeping it because it may not budge! Or just plan to come see me: )

Also, I learned about some wonderful pre and post color treatments to really help hair feel good, and not as processed as it may be.

I look forward to getting back behind the chair, and fixing your hair!!

Bring the best out of your hair, treatments decoded!

Do you ever look around at all the healthy, shiny hair on others that seems to cooperate so well and think, "Why can't my hair be that nice?". Or maybe you struggle getting your hair smooth because it feels so unruly. In my experience, I notice that almost half of people are not giving their hair all that it needs as far as nourishment. This could be vitamins, protein, light moisture, heavy moisture, sunscreen, and any combo of those!

I want to help educate you on some of the great treatments that are out there, and stress that by using them once a week or even less, your hair will look, feel, and behave better. Most of these treatments run about $20- that's not badfor something that you could get away with using twice a month!! Now sure, you can always pay me to do a treatment when you come see me.... but most of you don't, and those who do are always so desperate for one when they come in.

Here are a few winners!

Redken Color Extend Rich Recovery
Protective treatment provides deep conditioning to leave hair treated, manageable and vibrant.

Why It Works:
> Luxurious cream-gel formula provides deep conditioning
> Helps preserve the intensity of haircolor
> Leaves hair treated and manageable with highly reflective shine

Recommended for clients wanting to keep that just-been-colored shine and feel.

Interested? Take it to the next level with this:

Redken Color Extend Shine Enrich

Protect haircolor further while helping to seal split/dry ends, smooth flyaways, and impart a mirror like shine.

This product is AMAZING for getting healthy looking shine. A nice light serum complete with sunscreens.

Redken Fresh Curls Curl Recovery

This is a wonderful rich, rinse out mask. This is for someone who wants to replenish and restore dry, curly hair.

Why It Works:
> Moisture-rich formula deeply conditions medium to coarse, dry curls
> Conditioning and styling polymers revive parched strands and help restore elasticity and definition
> Strengthens to help prevent damage
> Provides the highest level of moisture in the Fresh Curls range
> Curls are quenched with healthy bounce and frizz-controlled shine

Redken Extreme Deep Fuel Treatments

Serious Damage control!! This product has been around for almost as long as I've been doing hair- and I swear by it. This treatment is for someone with highlighted, or highlifted hair who needs more than just moisture. When your hair is lightened, or has had many chemical treatments, it feels dry, has poor elasticity, dull, and is in danger of breakage. Most often people think there hair is just dry, but really it is missing essential proteins that have been lost during the lightening process. You can moisturize till the cows come home, but that moisture essentially goes in, and slips right back out. You need protein.

Why It Works:
> Helps restore very distressed hair back to its natural, healthy state
> Provides long-term conditioning and repair that lasts up to eight shampoos
> Hair is stronger, shinier and more manageable
> After 5 single treatments, hair is up to 3 times stronger compared to an ordinary shampoo alone in lab brushing tests

If you fall in this category, you may want to STRONGLY consider this long time favorite as well.

Redken Extreme Anti-Snap

Leave-in treatment gently smooths the cuticle and helps fortify hair that's prone to breaking, splitting or snapping off.

This award winning wonder can work miracles on your chemically or heat stressed hair. This is a perfect product to have if you want to grow out your hair, as it prevents breakage.

That's all for now! Lot of info, I'll make a part two in the future. FYI, these are all tried and tested products that I use regularly on myself or on clients.

Product Review-Lash Blast!

Holy Mascara!

I recently bought a drugstore mascara for myself, and believe this is the best mascara I've ever used. Ever!

There are a few different variations: Length, Luxe(shimmers), and Volume. I purchased volume. There is no doubt the formula is wonderful, but what really makes this mascara is the brush. There are so many little teeth that allow for maximum coating and combing. No clumps, long, full, awesome lashes.

And for 7.00- come on!!

Inspiration Station!

Happy New Year all! I know I took a big fat break in posting..because I went to Europe for 3 weeks! Very exciting on many levels, but for fashion..yes, dear.

I wasn't as blown away as I had anticipated, but I did some good observing. I hit Greece, France and Spain on this trip. I will admit I had high hopes for coming back to the states with tons of new ideas, however I didn't really see too much new.. but I did notice some real individual style more frequently, especially in Barcelona. I noticed a whole lot of black clothing. Black on black on black. I get that, because it's Winter, and also because I have been digging really dark clothes lately as well, I've even been pairing black with navy blue, which I remember while growing up that was a BIG fashion no-no! Like wearing pink with red. Haha.

LOTS of boots were happening. Again, yes Winter appropriate- but I mean EVERYone had one boots that fell at least right below the knee. I'm thinking some over the knee boots would be pretty fun to have. I didn't see too many.. so I think that would be a good move.

As far as NEW, the baggy crotch pant was budding through Barcelona as well. Quite an interesting look I will admit..but definitely not flattering. It's something you would wear for comfort, to be daring, and.. well.. possibly if you are really tall and thin. : ) I was curious to try some on, Zara carried them, but my fiance was so repulsed that I just couldn't. My only regret. Hehe.

As for hair and make-up, there really was a lack of good make-up jobs, either nothing, or way too much was what I was noticing. I think we pull off taste full, clean make-ups a little better. I did see a bit of barbie blue eye shadow with pink lips around Athens and Paris.

Lots of cute short bangs, I really enjoyed that. I missed out on giving myself a haircut before I left, so I took Paul's face razor to my bangs and took care of business. Where I was most of the people had very dark hair naturally, so there was a lot more dark brown hair than I am used to. I really felt like I stuck out with my red head-ness! Paul as a dark blonde, and me red.. oh yeah, we did not belong! Barcelona was quite diverse though, we could have passed there: )

It was a great trip though, and even just getting out of the routine and searching for new ideas- whether I found them or not- really got my creative juices flowing!

Happy 2010!
